Nothing to see here
I had a birthday and ate a good amount of yummy dark chocolate. Work has been busy, but enjoyable, I’ve been looking at and reading a lot about photography again (as if I need another uberexpensive hobby).

Perhaps more importantly – for this blog at least – why does this make me feel strangely at peace?

I spent so many years in question, to find I’ve known this all along.

After a couple of weeks yoyoing between sickness and solid training I decided (with the help of Fee ;) to take a full week off.


It’s a couple of days past that now and that old feeling between comfort and apprehension is starting to set in. It’s time to get back into it. Even though there’s no time and there are a hundred other things to do, most of them a lot more comfortable, the alternatives – racing and sucking, or taking real time away from training and making it back up “later” – are just too difficult to stomach.


CrossFit was always intended to be for the rest of forever, as the foundation for anything else. Riding is just a part of me. The goal of training then is to make the time I CAN spend racing or riding trails as good as it can be.


Food has been 90% paleo. Zone has dropped in favour of flexibility and simplicity.



Feeing pretty drained from the race, the carb binge and the interrupted sleep. Claire is getting her canine teeth and waking up about 20 minutes after we go to bed (no matter when that is), and somewhere between 4:30 and 6am, without any intent of returning to sleep until morning nap time.

The contrast between the week of PRs and copping an absolute smashing in yesterday’s race shouldn’t be messing with my head – it makes perfect sense – but it is. I feel desperate to ride more, but it’s also been one of those days where life feels too full.

Work was an uphill battle, freelance is a burden I wish I hadn’t signed up for, and training, or just aimless rolling, is something I’d love to be doing but it’s so far down the list it’s not funny.
